The Absolute Quickest System To Deflate & Inflate Oversized Tires

Looking for a quicker setup for less downtime for inflation or deflation? Monster Valves are hands down the fastest tools for all your off-road adventures. Designed for quick air-ups and air-downs, these simply designed high-flow valves are a literal game changer. Now, you can adapt your TPMS sensor to retain the functionality without the constant warning lights.

Power Tank has various options depending on your wheel type and fitment. Not sure of what kind of fitment you need? They offer a fitment kit to verify your fitment so the right kit gets ordered the first time. The fitment kit is highly recommended if you’re unsure which type would work best on your application. A little extra time, and you can nail it the first time. No headaches necessary.

The Power Tank Ecosystem

Black Power Tank With Monster Valves

Let’s face it, CO2 is faster, way faster than traditional means of tire inflation. Implementing a Power Tank into all your inflation needs will drastically reduce downtime. A 10lb system is the perfect size for weight and portability in any off-road scenario. I’ve personally been using CO2 for four years. At first, it was as a backup to my problematic compressor issues.

Over time, I found myself going straight to the Power Tank and left the onboard compressor for locker duties only. Overtasking a compressor is a cause for constant failures. Since this shift, I’ve run into zero issues for the last three years. Now, pair that Power Tank with the Monster Valves. That’s a recipe for serious performance.

Inflation issues aside, the Power Tank can also run pneumatic tools on the trail. No more dead batteries when you need to change a tire on the trail. Everything I’ve used from Power Tank has been nothing short of high quality and reliable. A quick look at their website will show you a commitment to solving your problems. From inflation to mounting, CO2 and propane accessories, and everything in between.

Initial Impressions

Monster Valves With Air Pressure Gauge

When I first got my hands on these beasts, I realized they were high quality. Everything was built with very low tolerances. I noticed the difference right away, having seen some similar pieces in the past. Quality-built parts mean less trouble where you never want it. The kit I’ll be covering is the Monster Valve “Primary” kit. It had everything I needed to adapt them to the current wheel setup. They also included the new TPMS adapters to retain the use of the TPMS.

PRO TIP: The included adapters will only work with the new style TPMS sensors, for Toyota at least. I’m not familiar with other OEM TPMS sensors, so I can’t comment on them. Another option is to purchase compatible aftermarket sensors and have them programmed to your vehicle.

Fitment

Monster Valve Clearance With Aftermarket Wheels

The install was pretty straightforward. The included diagram was simple to follow. My setup had only one valve stem hole. I was not gonna drill another hole in the rim if the Monster Valves fit in the existing placement. The valve fitment was nearly perfect – clean and sat inside the wheel to nearly eliminate any damage from pesky rocks that like to take out valve stems.

The valves themselves are large. This is done on purpose to provide a solid tactile surface without fumbling around the smaller valves inevitably bring. You can even use these with gloves for all your winter trail runs.

Performance

Here’s where we get to the good part. The part everyone is curious about. For my tests, I used a 33″ and 34″ tire that was deflated to 15 psi. Inflation was back up to 34 psi using the Monster Valve with both methods.

To add a little more brain food and gauge the true speed of the Monster Valves, I included Staun screw-on deflators for comparison during the deflation tests. All the pressures were verified using a Power Tank pressure gauge. Below, you’ll see the results of deflation and inflation tests on both tires using an ARB Twin compressor (Non-Brushless) and a 10lb Power Tank. The results might surprise you, and certainly have you thinking about the time you could be saving instead of crouched down by your tires.

Deflation (34 to 15 psi)

  • Monster Valves: 34″ tire = 38 seconds / 33″ tire = 34 seconds
  • Staun screw-on deflators: 34″ tire = 3 minutes, 42 seconds / 33″ tire = 3 minutes, 30 seconds

Inflation (Monster Valves only, 15 to 34 psi)

  • PowerTank: 34″ tire = 29 seconds / 33″ tire = 27 seconds
  • ARB Twin: 34″ tires = 1 minute, 14 seconds / 33″ tire = 1 minute, 8 seconds

Final Thoughts

CO2 Tank For Off-Road With Larger Valve Stems

I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. However, I quickly changed my mind going through the tests and several off-road excursions. The Monster Valves save a ton of time leading up to or ending an off-road adventure. I could get aired down or up several minutes before anyone in my group was done, letting the time saved speak for itself.

The process is simple. And very easy to repeat. In my opinion, the perfect setup would utilize two valve stem holes in the wheel. This will allow you to keep a pressure gauge attached and monitoring as the pressures change. Check out how the Monster Valves pair with a secondary Schrader valve. I had to release air, close it, check the pressure, and then adjust as necessary. However, it only took a couple of air downs to nail the process. Count down and close it when you hit your number. It was as smooth a process as anything after that.
