If you plan on using your truck to go camping and overlanding, having a solid fridge/freezer is essential. Keeping your perishables cold can be a battle. Before portable coolers were so accessible and available, your only option was a traditional cooler. They work, but the worst part is constantly adding ice and making sure your food and drinks aren’t mixing with the melting ice and water. I know I’m not the only one to throw away all my food after it was drowned in water.
ICECO has been around for several years now, consistently improving and upgrading their lineups. One of their newest coolers, the APL55, is what I chose to run in my new GFC camper setup. I’ve run a few of their fridges before and each one has been better than the last. The latest APL55 now offers a silver stainless machined finish (and black) with a rugged look.
This post will cover everything in detailed and my first impressions. I’ll also cover their new power station, the slide, and the PB1000.

Modern Control Panel
The control panel on this cooler is super sleek. There’s an easy to read display for temperature, power, Bluetooth and more. 6 buttons control everything from modes to lighting and settings. Super simple to use.
Bluetooth App Control
A newer feature, many ICECO products now offer app control for major operating systems for remote control.
Power Outlets
The APL55 has 3 outlets on the front and 2 on the back. The front has DC, AC, and USB slots. The USB is presumably for charging other accessories, like your phone. The back has DC and USB. DC is preferrable for coolers, since it is more efficient. But both will get the job done.
Insulation & Lid Seal
Since I had my last ICECO fridge, they’ve updated their lid seal. The thicker design does a much better job of keeping warm air out. The sides feature over 2″ of insulation for efficient cooling and temperature retention.
Integrated Lighting
Not only is there an internal light for nighttime, but the exterior features an ambient light to help light your general area. They can be toggled on and off.
Tie Down Points
There’s always a need to secure all your gear. ICECO made it easy with tie down positions on the sides, and a bar on the front of the lid. The handles can also be used for securing everything down.
Baskets & Divider
The fridge comes with three different baskets to help organize your stuff. They’re easy to remove. Personally, I try and maximize space and run without these. There is also a center divider which breaks up the dual zones.
Interior Volume
Above, you can see the interior with the divider removed. This is likely how I will run it most of the time, unless we bring some frozen goods. There’s a ton of room here and it should be more than sufficient for our trips. I’ve only had roughly a 45 quart in my previous setups (which is easy to fill), so the additional capacity should help out a lot.
Slide Mount
For the best and easiest access, there is an optional slide. It’s a simple design that gets the job done and makes it easier to use. My plan is to bolt it down to the bed with a custom bracket or a bed plate. The slide comes standard with cam straps to secure the fridge to the slide.
PB1000 Power Station
I’m stoked to see ICECO continue to expand their complementary products. Powering your electronics is a big deal and that goes for more than just your cooler setup. The PB1000 is the perfect size, in my opinion. Being able to use one manufacturer for related products is a big help – whether that’s for customer service or warranty claims. You can bet the compatibility is good too.
This power station is loaded. Here are some defining features and specs.
- 1057 watt hour capacity
- 1200W max output, 800W (fast charging) max input, pure sine wave
- Weighs 32.5 lbs. (relatively lightweight and compact)
- AC, DC & solar charging
- all the outputs you’ll ever need
- LIFEPO4 battery
- Weather and vibration resistant
- integrated lighting
- works with a huge variety of electronics
- sturdy handle
Final Thoughts
Given my previous experiences, and the latest updates, I have full confidence in the APL55, the slide, and power station. If you’re looking for a complete ecosystem to make your overlanding experience better, I recommend checking out ICECO.
