Fitting Bigger Tires With Little To No Rubbing!

Are you sick of rubbing? Or your fender flares ripping off, or bowing out; constantly trying to make it look good again? Meet the OTF (Oversized Tire Fitment) kit. If you’ve ever slapped a set of beefy tires on your Tacoma and heard that dreaded rub every time you drive (on or off-road), you’re not alone.

Bigger tires look awesome and perform even better… but only if they actually fit on your rig. That’s where the C4 OTF system steps in like a trail-tested superhero. This kit is purpose-built to eliminate annoying tire rubbing, give you more wheel well clearance, add protection where it counts, and help those bigger tires sit just right.

Whether you’re gearing up for off-road adventures or just want your truck to look the part, this kit makes sure your Tacoma is ready to rock (no pun intended) – smoothly, confidently, and rub-free.

Kit Overview

Front Wheel Well Oversized Tire Fitment Kit For Tacoma

There might be a few other options out there, but I’ve seen nothing as complete or dialed as the offering by C4. The system includes everything you need for not only larger tire fitment but for added protection and a seamless, near factory look.

In the box you’ll find stick-on trimming templates for your OEM fender flares, fitted aluminum liners and assembly hardware, truck trim for a seamless, dust-resistant fitment, and last but not least, the body mount relocation. Fair warning – if you do the body relocation, you will need to cut and weld your truck’s frame.

When Do You Need This?

Old Body Mount Chop For Clearing Tires

Let’s face it—running 35s on a Tacoma looks… sick, but without the right mods, it can turn into a clearance nightmare real fast. We’ve all been there – crawling over rocks or weaving through a tight forest trail, and suddenly your front tires catch the cab mounts or shred your fenders. Not exactly the off-road confidence you signed up for. The C4 Oversized Tire Fitment Kit solves that with smart, clean modifications like precision trimming, cab mount relocation, and steel reinforcements, that give your tires room to move without chewing up your truck. It’s protection and performance for your tires in one complete kit.

This isn’t just for the hardcore rock crawlers either. Even on pavement, the benefits are noticeable. Ever tried backing into a tight parking spot at full lock with wide tires? Without proper clearance, they rub badly on plastic, metal, and sometimes… even your pride. This kit ensures better fitment and a seamless appearance that makes your truck not only more capable, but more polished, too. Whether you’re out exploring trails or just want to turn heads at the grocery store, this is one upgrade that pays off, especially in tire longevity. We go through tires pretty quickly and having that added clearance really helps to extend their lifespan.

Body Mount Relocation

C4 Body Mount Relocation For Tacoma

The body mount relocation is by far the most intimidating part of this mod. For me at least, I started out with a body mount chop or BMC for short. It kind of got me through a set of 33s and 34s but once I threw those 35s on, the dreaded rub and having to carefully pay attention to my turn radius. When upsizing to 33s, 34s, or especially 35s on a 3rd Gen Tacoma, one of the biggest obstacles (or oversights) is the factory cab mount. It sits RIGHT in the path of your front tires when turning, especially at full lock or during an off-cambered rock crawl.

Now, the chop is the quicker, more basic route and what most people (like me) start out with when in need of clearance. The process is pretty simple and I won’t go into to much detail here, but you or a fab shop will cut away a portion of the existing cab mount, usually trimming it into a new shape and capping it off with a steel plate. This gives your tires more room to turn, but it’s not always enough clearance for true 35s, and depending on how aggressive the chop is, it may look a little rough.

A full relocation, on the other hand, like what’s included in the C4 Fabrication kit, is the cleaner, more permanent solution. Instead of just trimming the mount, this route removes the factory cab mount entirely and replaces it with a fabricated compact housing that sits farther back. This not only restores strength and durability but also gives you maximum clearance for larger tires without sacrificing structural integrity. The result is a more OEM-looking finish that’s stronger, sleeker, and built to last.

Welding C4 BMR

As for the fabrication work, this is NOT a bolt-on kit. You will need to cut, grind, weld, and repaint your Tacoma’s front cab mounts. The C4 kit includes pre-cut steel plates, gussets, and covers that fit exactly where needed, making the process more straightforward for shops or experienced DIYers. You’ll also need to temporarily remove components like the front wheels, part of the inner fender liners, carpet in the cab and be ready to deal with sparks and welds – this is true metalwork, not a plug-and-play mod.

I was fortunate to have a local welder recommended to me and he did a phenomenal job. It took us about 4-5 hours with some breaks in between. Not too bad but still about a day of work in total. A key part to focus on here is doing one side at a time and taking good measurements of your cab height to ensure everything is level and spaced evenly on both sides. Overall, it was a seamless job and looks killer.

Once it’s done, you’ll have a Tacoma that turns full-lock with 35s, eats up rocky trails, and backs into tight parking spots without sounding like it’s tearing itself apart. It’s one of those upgrades that pays off every single time your front tires move.

Fender Trim

Fender Flare Trim From OTF Kit

One of my favorite, and most underrated, features of the C4 OTF kit is the included stick-on, pre-cut trim templates for your OEM fender flares. Let’s be honest, trimming your factory plastics can be a nerve wracking process. One wrong or wonky cut, and you’re either living with a jagged mess or replacing an entire fender flare. C4 takes the guesswork out of it by including precision-cut adhesive templates that align perfectly with your stock fender flares. All you have to do is peel, stick, and follow the cut lines with confidence. Using their easy to follow guidelines there’s no real measuring, no second-guessing, and most-importantly no YouTube-deep-dives at midnight.

Once trimmed, your factory flares line up perfectly with the aluminum inner fender liners that come next in the install. Even without the rest of the kit, the flare cut leaves a clean, professional and super aggressive look that flows from the body line down into the wheel well, almost like Toyota meant for it to be that way. It’s little details like this that make the whole kit feel super thoughtfully engineered, not just thrown together. Whether you’re doing the install yourself or taking it to a shop, these templates make a tedious step feel satisfying and foolproof.

Fender Liner

Aluminum High Clearance Fender Liner For Tacoma

To finish off the kit and really tie the whole build together, C4 includes a set of high-grade aluminum fender liners that are as functional as they are clean-looking. These liners replace the flimsy, dirt-trapping factory plastic with durable, precision-formed aluminum that holds up to rocks, mud, and whatever else your tires might throw at them. My OEM liners were toast from trail abuse, cutting and (of course) tire rubbing so these were a really nice mod to be adding. These liners are mounted using low-profile button head hardware, they stay flush and secure without snagging on tires, or anything else for that matter, during full articulation. That means no rubbing, no rattling, and no worrying about torn liners mid-trail.

Even better, C4 thought about the details, these liners come with thick-gauge rubber trim that lines the outer edges of the fender liners. This not only helps seal off gaps between the liner and your factory sheet metal, but it also gives the install a tight, finished appearance that looks really clean. It keeps dust and debris out of your engine bay while also keeping everything looking sharp under the hood. I was actually a little worried that my ARB snorkel might interfere with the kit because it sits higher up with the fender cut, but once I got to installing it – it fit without the slightest issue. Whether you’re running your Tacoma hard off-road or just want that polished, high-clearance look at the local meet, these liners give you durability without sacrificing style.

Firewall Clearance

Clearance For Firewall With Larger Tires On Tacoma

Now, If you’re planning to run true 35s, even the best kit might need a little… persuasion. That’s where firewall clearance comes into play. While the C4 kit gives you a huge upgrade in wheel well space and eliminates most, if not all rubbing, certain setups—especially with wider tires or full flex while off-road—can still make contact with the rear inner fender/firewall area. The fix? A few well-placed swings of a sledgehammer.

Yep, you read that right. Carefully knocking back the sheet metal behind the front wheels (just above and behind the cab mount area) creates a crucial extra inch or so of room for your tires to move freely. It’s a tried-and-true method that may sound a little extreme, but when done right, it’s safe, effective, and totally hidden behind the inner liners once installed. When I finished up bashing it in, I threw some seam sealer and black paint in there and you can’t even tell it had been smashed repeatedly with a 10 lb. sledge…. Nice.

Just remember, slow and steady wins the race here. Take your time, test fit your tires, and don’t go full demolition mode. Once it’s knocked back and the C4 liners are in place, no one will ever know (except you) when your tires clear without major rubbing, even at full lock on the trail.

Review

C4 Body Mount Relocation

After going through the entire C4 Oversized Tire Fitment Kit, one thing is clear, this is way more than just a simple clearance mod. It’s a total, well-planned solution for anyone serious about running oversized tires (especially 35s) on their 3rd Gen without sacrificing drivability, capability, or even appearance.

From the body mount relocation brackets that maximize turning radius and restore structural integrity, to the stick-on trim templates that make cutting factory flares almost fun, every part of this kit is built with both form and function in mind. The strong aluminum inner fender liners are rugged, rattle-free, and pretty nice to look at. The included rubber trim seals keep everything tight and trail-ready, and the option to knock back the firewall gives even more room for full flex clearance on the trail without having to worry about rubbing.

Whether you’re rock crawling, trail running, or just want to daily drive your Tacoma on 35s without cringing every time you turn the wheel, the C4 OTF Kit hits all the marks. It’s clean, tough, thoughtfully designed, and built to perform.

Cutting Body Mount For Relocation

It’s worth noting that Toyotas historically do not play well with bigger tires. The bigger, the more issues you experience. While this kit does a very good job to reduce the rub, a full clearance (mainly for extremes of off-roading) would need to include a tubbing. Tubbing is where you cut into the top of the body inside the wheel well and the firewall under the footwells for total clearance. It’s pretty involved and can be costly. While the OTF kit won’t give you 100% clearance, it’s the next best thing. Any rubbing left is relatively minimal, and won’t chew up your tires. I would say this is the only “acceptable” amount of rub without going full send into larger body modification. This is no fault of the kit, just a matter of what we’re working with from the factory.

Final Thoughts

C4 OTF Kit Review

I’ll be honest, when I first looked into the C4 OTF Kit, I was a little nervous. I had already done a (shoddy) body mount chop and the idea of cutting into factory fender flares, relocating cab mounts, and doing some fab work was a little out of my wheelhouse. But after finding a good welder, it was well worth it.

The kit itself made the job much easier than I expected. Everything from the pre-cut templates to the precision-fit components felt easy thought out the build. Once it was all installed, the transformation was honestly kind of jaw-dropping. My Tacoma runs 35s with effectively ZERO rubbing, full turning radius, and clean lines that look OEM. On the trail, the extra clearance and protection give me peace of mind, and even on the street, I can park, reverse, and turn without worrying about tire contact.

If you’re on the fence about a kit like this, I totally understand… it’s not a small project. But now that it’s done, I can honestly say it transformed my truck in all the right ways. The fit and finish far exceeded my expectations, and the performance speaks for itself. No more rubbing, no more limitations, and no compromises on how the truck looks or drives. It feels purpose-built now, like this is how the Tacoma should have come from the factory. If you’re serious about fitting oversized tires the right way, this kit is absolutely worth it.
